Seven Days While My Wife Was Away--Day One
Loneliness and malodorous
My wife, Maddie, was out of town on a business trip. She traveled north to Santa Cruz, leaving me to wallow in the desert heat, averaging a mere 115 degrees in Indio, although I stayed comfortably indoors the whole week.
There is a time when couples need a break; some prefer it, while others dislike it. I’m in the middle. It’s nice that my wife’s away for a week. We need a brief change in the routine. For my wife, it’s a pleasure and business trip—a chance to meet her new employees and visit her family in San Jose. As for me, I don’t have any family left except for my daughter and son, and they’re three thousand miles away. My daughter is in Florida, and my son lives in Bear, Delaware. So, what am I to do with myself?
