Satan by the fire

Our night at the bonfire went out of control. It wasn’t that the flames were too high or sparks flew and created a wildfire—it was the presence of Satan’s ugly puss.

It started innocently. Ma-Haha chanted something in Sanskrit by the bonfire, calling the yoga spirits to join us in our fire celebration.

“The bonfire will cleanse us,” he said. “It will reawaken our passion, give us power and make our lives brand new. And to borrow a lyric from Arthur Brown—Now’s your time to burn your mind!”

I wanted to be brand new, lose all my belly fat and maintain a vegetarian diet, but my mind wouldn’t let me. Every night after work, I’d be hungry on my drive home, and I couldn’t pass a Kentucky Fried Chicken or a White Castle without stopping.
