When I married my Mexican wife, I suddenly became part Latino. I began using Spanish words I remembered from Spanish class in high school. I ate more Mexican food, especially tacos and quesadillas. I started to notice other Spanish-speaking people, whether on the streets, roofs, or kitchens. I went to a Mexican dentist, and I attended Fiesta Days. There is so much Spanish/Mexican influence in California that you can’t help but assimilate it into your being. Here are some of my poems, stories, and humor around my cultural shift.
